“Freedom of speech, expression and opinion is important for my clients. Without it, they can not communicate freely”
Matthew Barbaro studied at The University of Queensland and graduated with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) in 2019. He is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and Speech Pathology Australia member (SPA). Matthew is the owner and creator of Freedom of Speech Pathology.
I have been working with clients in the NDIS sector, aged care sector and private sector since 2019. In these sectors, I have formed strong and ongoing professional relationships with many of my clients, and their families. I have lived experience with close relatives with Autism, Stroke, Aphasia, Apraxia, Dysarthria and Dysphagia which have heavily influenced my service derlivery. These experiences bolster my understanding of families with similar experiences.
In my free time, I like to listen to psychology and political podcasts, listen to music, go for walks with my partner and her dog, play games with my mates, and go for long drives.
In 2022, I saw a need to advocate for our Universal Human Rights, especially Freedom of Expression and Opinion. This is why I started Freedom of Speech Pathology. Many of my clients make errors on their journey to learn how to effectively communicate, they need to freedom to make errors to learn. Additionally, they need the freedom to choose their preferred communication methods (e.g. communication device, sign language etc.).
The right to freedom of speech is central because it’s the right by which you defend all the other rights - Jordan Peterson, 2018
